What’s the story?
Lakay, when signed from Cape Town City a couple of years ago, came to Chloorkop as a left winger. In an effort to showcase his willingness to help the team, former coach Pitso Mosimane converted the star to the left-back position.

Since then, Lakay has gone on to cement his place in the team, becoming an important component of their defensive set-up. Also, the former SuperSport United man was always known for having an educated left-foot. However, it was at Downs where he excelled at fine tuning his dead ball abilities.
As a result, the 30-year-old has contributed to numerous goals and assists in the last couple of seasons and stands over the ball as one of South Africa’s best free-kick takers.
Leading Left Back
Last season, Lakay managed to score five goals, all being free-kicks. He also managed to accumulate eight assists along the way. In the current campaign, Lakay has two goals to his name, while he looks on course to better his assists tally of last season and has six to his name so far.
That being said, Lakay took to his Twitter handle where he was seen practicing his free-kick routine, as supporters showed their appreciation for his hard work behind the scenes.
