Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Tiyani Mabunda has shown his support for controversial self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri.
Mabunda has made no secret of his close affinity to the controversial clergyman as a staunch member of Bushiri’s Enlightened Christian Gathering church over the years.
Mabunda has gone as far as adding the ‘Major One’s’ name to his playing regalia, including boots as well as his sweat bands.
Bushiri, his wife Mary and three others are waiting to hear if they will be granted bail following charges of fraud, theft and money laundering lodged against them for an amount exceeding R100M.
Despite these allegations, Mabunda has shown his support for a man he regards as his spiritual father.
Taking to Instagram, the 32-year-old shared an image of himself alongside the Malawian preacher along with the caption.
“When I grow up, I want to be like my father @shepherdbushiri #istandwithmajor1#The13thMan”
Mabunda’s Instagram page was littered with negative comments from some of his followers, although ‘Suga’ appeared undeterred by the negativity.
Meanwhile in matters off the field, the midfielder has been linked with an exit from the Brazilians, after struggling for game time in the last two seasons.
