The story
After making headlines in 2022 for all the wrong reasons, retired footballer Matthew Booth and fitness influencer and businesswoman Bongani Mthombeni escaped for a sun-soaked vacation in Mauritius.
The former towering centre back and his partner Mthombeni, who both co-founded the Booth Africa company, were spotted at the four-and-a-half star Canonnier Beachcomber Golf Resort Spa.
Regarded as one of the top family resorts in the northern islands of Mauritius, a standard suite for two adults starts at around R4 716 per night.
Booth and Mthombeni had the option to choose between a host of restaurants on offer, a unique spa built in the branches of a banyan tree, a diving school, a miniature golf course as well as access to two 18-hole par 72 golf courses.
The ex-Mamelodi Sundowns man posted a gallery of holiday snaps on Instagram, showcasing picturesque ocean views, a tropical garden, the spa and couples portrait close to the golf course.

A sneak peek into Mthombeni and Booth's holiday appears to confirm that their relationship is going strong, after they made it Instagram official in early 2023.
The news of the couple's romance shook social media when it surfaced back in November 2022, when Booth's ex-wife, Sonia, accused him of having an affair since February of that year.
She revealed the details of the alleged affair in a series of social media posts, exposing how Matthew had allegedly been cheating on her. She hired a private investigator to dig deeper and validate her suspicions.
The incident quickly became known as the "cheesecake story" due to Sonia revealing how Matthew had baked a cheesecake one night, but by morning, it was gone.
Sonia claimed he had baked it for Mthombeni. To confront him, Sonia left the cake carrier on the garage floor where he parked, signalling that she knew about the alleged affair.
