LEGENDARY gospel musician Hlengiwe Mhlaba, who celebrated her 50th birthday on Saturday, 17 February, has made it clear she won’t retire from music anytime soon.
Hlengiwe from KwaMashu, in KZN, is also celebrating 20 years of releasing hit songs and healing broken hearts.
She said she'll be singing until her death.
Her birthday party, which was held at Egagasini in Durban, was attended by Ukhozi FM gospel show presenter Zanele Mbokazi, musician Mondli Ngcobo and musician Thobekile "Isidudla seTheku" Mkhwanazi.
The Uyalalela hitmaker told Daily Sun she was grateful to God who has been with her through many challenges.
“It's not about me, it's only God who's saving me and using me to heal His people through my music.
“I'll continue singing and healing people and won't retire from music. I'll sing until my last days on earth,” she said.

The multi-award-winning musician said she didn't grow up in a church-going family as her late mum sold umqombothi (home-brewed alcohol).
“My mum, who died in 2000, didn’t see me singing. I started singing in church and she didn't attend church.
“When I started to release my music in 2004, she had died four years earlier. God didn’t judge me because of my background. He used me to heal His people, regardless of where I was coming from,” Hlengiwe said.
Hlengiwe also thanked those who love her music and making her relevant in the music industry.
“Without my fans' love, I wouldn't be relevant. I want to thank them and assure them that I'ill continue releasing music that blesses and heals them.
“I've finished recording a new project to be released soon. I’m also in the studio recording another project for my fans,” she said.
