Born in a small village in Limpopo, SuperSport United winger and free kick specialist, Aubrey Modiba, opened up about where football started for him, his time at the School of Excellence, and why he rejected Mamelodi Sundowns.

Modiba, 25, recalls how he would often cry when Kaizer Chiefs would lose a game, as he supported the club growing up and shared how his grandmother pushed him to chase after his football dream.

Once he attended the School of Excellence in Johannesburg, he played with some of the best young players in the country, and by the time he matriculated in 2013 after joining in five years earlier, he was certain about playing at the highest level.

By 2015, 'Postman' as he is affectionately known, was offered his first professional contract with Clive Barker at the now-defunct Mpumalanga Black Aces.

The Matsatsantsa man recalls his sheer joy once he signed, signalling the beginning of his career, which has been on the rise ever since.

Working with the likes of Muhsin Ertugral, Owen Da Gama, and Eric Tinker among many other head coaches, Modiba revealed the lessons he learned from all of the former football mentors he’s played under.

During this wonderful SLTV exclusive, the Limpopo-born player also said…

  • "She’s the one who encouraged me to take it seriously…"
  • "It has to be Siphiwe Tshabalala…"
  • "Even my granny back at home, she loves soccer…"
  • "Stuart Baxter, what a genius…"
