For only the second time this season, Real boss Carlo Ancelotti decided to start Brahim Diaz, naming him in the starting XI for their European clash against Portuguese outfit Braga.
For almost the entirety of the 2023/24 season thus far, the Malaga native has been used as a substitute, but on Wednesday night, the young attacker made his starting berth count as he joined Brazilian duo Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes on the scoresheet in their 3-0 win over the Primeira Liga side.
While the 24-year-old had a great showing at the Santiago Bernabeu, it was not his performance on the night that reporters were keen on dissecting, but rather who he will be playing for in terms of international football.
Diaz was born in Spain but is of Moroccan ancestry and so is eligible to play for either nation, and which red shirt he will decide to don on the international stage has been a hot topic.
After the win over Braga, reporters in the mixed zone asked him about his international commitment, and he replied with, as per Sport: "We'll see what happens, I only think about Real Madrid.
"Do people or the press want to know? I have already said that I am at Real Madrid, the best club in the world and focused on succeeding here.
"That is my goal right now and what I am focused on.
"I will not go with the first one who calls me, it is not like that.
