The MLS has issued a statement after Lionel Messi was accused of breaking the league's rules last weekend.

Following the 36-year-old's goalscoring debut against New York Red Bulls in the MLS on Sunday morning, about 400 reporters were believed to have waited for the opportunity to interview Messi.
This came after the executive vice-president of the league stated ahead of the match that all players, including the Argentine, would need to avail themselves for media duties as part of the MLS' media policy.
Messi, however, did not speak to journalists after that tie, leading to suggestions the league could potentially punish the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner.
A statement issued by the MLS on Wednesday appeared to confirm this would not be the case, however.
"There was a misunderstanding regarding Lionel Messi's media access. He has not violated any guidelines for his media availability in Major League Soccer," it read, according to AS.
Messi was in action in the early hours of Thursday morning as Inter Miami drew 0-0 with Nashville in a league encounter, and once again did not speak to journalists after the match.
