Remembering The Great Shoes Moshoeu
A name that will forever live on in the hearts of the Kaizer Chiefs faithful - John 'Shoes' Moshoeu! In April 2015, Moshoeu lost his life after battling stomach cancer, leaving behind a great footballing tale in the local football community.
Growing up in Diepkloof, Soweto, the young Moshoeu went through the Kaizer Chiefs youth structures before joining Giant Blackpool. He became famously part of the 'Triple M' alongside Fani Madida and Geelbooi Masango, however, Blackpool was relegated but Moshoeu did not leave his beloved team and continued to play for the club for six years, out of the limelight despite receiving offers from a bigger outfit.
He was one of South Africa's finest exports, spending 10 years at several Turkish clubs. In 2003, he rejoined his boyhood club, Kaizer Chiefs at the age of 38. Many would have said that his career was done and dusted, but Moshoeu had much more to offer as he appeared in 89 matches for Amakhosi over a three-year spell, holding a record as the oldest goalscorer in the PSL.
His personality was defined by his strong character and he refused to leave the football pitch. His stylish runs and incredible passing ability remain with us forever!
May your soul rest in peace, Shoes!
