Chiefs Hit & Miss At Home… But Mostly Miss
Why Kaizer Chiefs Struggled To Score At Home
Kaizer Chiefs will be rueing a trophyless season in 2016/17 season and there seems to be a very clear reason why they failed to reach their lofty expectations.
The Glamour Boys scored 20 goals at home over the course of the entire Absa Premiership campaign, which was only the fifth best tally in the league and missed crucial opportunities to score which frequently cost them in terms of results, which is the logical explanation behind their fourth-place finish in the final standings.
It goes without saying that every team needs to take full advantage of their opportunities to win games in front of their home fans and, in this respect, they failed to make the grade.
However, the Glamour Boys managed to take 184 shots at home throughout the campaign, which falls above the league average of 180.2. The most concerning fact, however, is that only 28.8% of their shots actually hit the target, which is the second worst statistic in the league, with only Free State Stars achieving a poorer shot accuracy than Amakhosi.
This is undoubtedly a problem that Steve Komphela will address ahead of the new season and the Khosination will be hopeful that he manages to get the most out of his men up front and give them something to shout about.
