Transfer Update: Australian Arrives At Chippa United, Deal Imminent

By Soccer Laduma - Jul 03, 2017 03:27 PM

Australian defender, Brent Griffiths, has touched down in Mzansi where he is currently training with Dan Malesela’s Chippa United.

The 27-year-old was linked with a move to Mamelodi Sundowns back in the year 2015 after it was revealed that the Chloorkop-based club was keeping tabs on the player.

The former A-League player was subsequently on the verge of putting pen to paper with Cape Town City last season, however, a deal for Griffiths did not materialise at the time.

Now, Soccer Laduma has since been informed that the player is currently with the Port Elizabeth outfit, where he is training under the watchful eye of Head Coach Malesela and indications are that a deal for the centre back is set to be concluded in the coming days.

“Brent Griffiths landed in P.E today and has started training with Chippa United. If all goes well and both parties are happy, he could put pen to paper on a professional contract with the club in the coming days,” the player’s representative, Mirko Agnelli confirmed to the Siya crew.

Should Chippa look to add the player to their books for the new 2016/17 season, Griffiths will join the likes of SuperSport United’s Jeremy Brockie and Michael Boxall who have paved the way for players from the A-League to join South Africa’s top flight.

@ndleleni_89 : the last time I checked (5 minutes ago) the team famous for signing free agents was Chiefs and they have the same number of players from outside the African continent as Downs , Supersport has 2 if I'm not mistaken , so the team famous for free agents is one of only 3 or 4 teams with overseas players so ubhampile boy .

Even Chippa can Import from out side African continent while others relying on the neighbours signing free agents anywhere but they come here & claim being the big team mxm. If this is biggest team in S.A then our nation is sick.
