Top Eight Clubs Drop Points, Tshakhuma Stun Cosmos

By Soccer Laduma - Sep 10, 2017 05:48 PM
Former PSL outfits, Highlands Park, Black Leopards and Jomo Cosmos lost to lower-placed teams, Real Kings recorded a good 1-0 away win over Mbombela United, while Witbank Spurs and Cape Town All Stars played to a 2-2 draw.

In fact, the top eight clubs all dropped points as University of Pretoria overpowered the Lions of the North 2-1 by, Lidoda Duvha succumbed to a 1-0 defeat by rookies, Uthongathi FC and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhadila (TTM) stunned Esenkosi by the same score.

Thanks to an own goal and Phelelani Shozi’s effort, Shaun Bartlett’s AmaTuks bounced back in style to illustrate the unpredictability of the NFD.

All the goals came in the second half, including one from Park’s Mothobi Mvala.

The Cane Cutters showed who was best at Princess Magogo Stadium when Celimpilo Ngema netted the winner, although prior to this, the home side had hit the post on a number of occasions.

Siphamandla Majola was Kings’ hero in Mpumalanga and after two home defeats, questions are being asked about why Mbombela suddenly parted ways with head coach, Ashwin Sutton.

Only time will tell whether his replacement, Petrus Chauke, doesn’t suffer the same fate.

TTM’s coach, Sello Chokoe, will be very happy for collecting his first points, while former Acorn Bush United star, Mpambaniso Monde, had the honour of netting the club’s first ever NFD goal.

The match between Siyavutha and Igugu Lekapa was a ding-dong affair but in the end a fair result which leaves the Cape side on top with 7 points from a possible 9.

Spurs’ goal scorers were Khethukuthula Zwane and Sabelo Nyembe, while

Cebo Meyiwa and Ruzaigh Gamildien (penalty) ensured David Kannemeyer’s side got a point.

There was also a tight finish at the Harry Gwala Stadium, where Stellenbosch FC and Royal Eagles drew 1-1.

Ubuntu Cape Town and Super Eagles played out a goalless draw at Athlone but had the home side capitalised on their many chances, it would have been a different story.

There were also no goals at the Umhlathuze Stadium when Richards Bay FC entertained Mthatha Bucks.

This NFD season may be the toughest. By luck, TTM won but they will find it difficult to maintain their status. Our defence gave them a ball and they then scored from that single mistake. Jomo Cosmos did not show the intensity we saw against Amatuks. Maybe it was hot. I don't. The vibe and atmosphere at Thohoyandou Stadium was electric. People of Venda love their football and their teams. Well done to them. It was also nice seeing our Thabo Ralebakeng captaining TTM. All the best to you, T-man.
