The Amakhosi will have Erick Mathoho suspended for the second game as he serves the final match of his ban after receiving a straight red card against SuperSport United, although Steve Komphela will be buoyed by the fact that Lorenzo Gordinho and Daniel Cardoso kept a clean sheet against Cape Town City.

Stars have Thamsanqa Teyise out as he serves the second game of his suspension for a red card against Bidvest Wits, while Yazid Atouba won’t be able to feature for Maritzburg either.

Chiefs face Wits, with Ea Lla Koto coming up against Baroka and the Team of Choice hosting Orlando Pirates in their fourth games of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Maritzburg will also be without their team doctor, Gerhard van der Merwe, after he was given a red card against SuperSport United in the MTN8 semifinal last week.

New Mamelodi Sundowns defender Rivaldo Coetzee met up with his new teammates for the first time at Chloorkop on Thursday morning. The Bafana Bafana international has a moonboot locked around his right foot, which, according to him, can be expected to be part of his attire for at least the next six to eight weeks. Coetzee made an 11th hour move to the Brazilians on August 31 after his move to Scottish side Celtic fell through. “It was tough but these things happen and there is always a reason for everything, and I think because of that something good came out of it,” he said. “I’ve twisted my ankle a couple of times, I’ve had problems with it. I’ve strapped it and I didn’t know that it was this serious. I was upset when they told me about what happened and to think that I have been playing with it for quite a while and to find out in the last minute when everything was already done. I have to keep my head up now and focus on recovery. I was upset but I am not going to blame anyone,” he added. The African champions then renewed their interest in the 20-year-old, and he didn’t think twice about putting pen to paper. “I didn’t hesitate for one moment that I want to be here, I signed immediately. This is the club that I have always wanted to join. It is the only club I will play for in the PSL. I am delighted to join this big club and I am looking forward to knowing some of the guys, those who I have not played with in the national team.” When he recovers, Coetzee faces a challenge to get a place in Pitso Mosimane’s side, but that does not seem to bother him much. “It doesn’t say anything, it just says to me that the coach believes in me and my ability and what I can do, otherwise he wouldn’t have signed me with this injury, I am happy to be here.”

Former Chippa United coach Dan Malesela believes the club was “destined for bigger things”, but his hopes of building sustainable success were dashed when he was released by the club. Malesela parted ways with Chippa on Wednesday and has since been replaced by former Orlando Pirates midfielder Teboho Moloi. Chippa have won one of their three Absa Premiership matches, against AmaZulu. They were beaten 1-0 by Orlando Pirates on the opening weekend of the season and then suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to Baroka FC on Tuesday. Despite the slow start to the campaign, Malesela believed that things would have improved for the club, but Chippa are not known for being a patient. “I am not feeling anything. These things are to be expected. When you coach other clubs you must be ready for anything to happen. I am focusing on what’s next for me,” he telled Iself. “We were destined for bigger things. There was a lot and players were beginning to understand what the objectives are. The prospects were there, [and] we have some lovely youngsters who are talented. Sometimes the scoreline cannot begin to reflect what the team is all about. It’s destructive, but we are not in control of these things.” He continues: “It will always be a destruction because you have not planned for anything else but the club you are at. The prospects were looking good. There’s a process of building and it’s cut short.” Malesela says he will now spend time with family and hopefully he can find a club to join in October. “[I’ll spend] just two weeks with my family because clubs are busy, so I will take it easy. There’s a [Fifa] break in October. Hopefully by then one can find a club and see. “It’s not easy to join the club in the middle of the season, but you have to adjust to these things because they happen.

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Motjeka Madisha has lavished praise on manager Pitso Mosimane and confident his chance with the national team is around the corner. After breaking into the Brazilians' first XI in the second-half of last season due to his dominating displays in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge triumph, Madisha earned rave reviews for his composure in defence. Now, having earned the trust of Mosimane and the Downs technical team for a place within the Masandawana line-up, the academy graduate is ready to improve various aspects of his game. "It was a tough season for me, and when I thought I was ready for the first team, the coach took me back to the MDC team," he tolled iDunu. "I'm grateful to coach Mosimane and, being a young player at such a big club, I just want to cement my place in the starting line-up. "I'm not worried about a call-up to Bafana Bafana because I want to establish myself first at Sundowns," Madisha added. "Through hard work, I know I'll make it to the senior national team. "I still have to improve here and there next season. African football has exposed me to different challenges and helped improve my aggression and technique as a defender."
