SSU Returnee Sustains Fracture, Tinkler Finalises Technical Team
Thato Mokeke Will Be Missing For SuperSport United
SuperSport United head coach, Eric Tinkler, says that Thato Mokeke won’t be playing for the club any time soon after he was spotted limping during their preseason in Polokwane.
Mokeke returned to Matsatsantsa after working with Tinkler at Cape Town City last season, with the versatile defender making 27 Absa Premiership appearances in what was an impressive debut season for the club.
However, it will be a while before SuperSport fans see the 27-year-old donning their colours once again after he sustained a slight fracture. He could be seen wearing a moon boot at the club’s award ceremony earlier this week.
Tinkler told the Siya crew, “Yeah, it’s unfortunate. I picked it up in a training session in Polokwane, I noticed him running with a limp. We sent him for a scan and found that he had a slight fracture.
“We’re looking at six weeks. He’s a great lad, hard worker and great professional. I feel for him but he’s strong with a great character. He’s part of our squad and he knows that.”
Meanwhile, the SuperSport head coach also explained that he’s finalised his technical team, bringing in former Mamelodi Sundowns physical trainer, Zac van Heerden.
He said, “I only wanted to bring in Zac, I was already happy with what he had. I think Kaitano is an important member of the club and I’ve always been a firm believer as a coach that people need to come from the club because they know the culture and philosophy there.”
SuperSport get their season underway against Kaizer Chiefs this weekend in the MTN8.
