Stellenbosch Part Ways With Coach After Unsuccessful Play-Offs
Stellenbosch FC Have Parted Ways With Sammy Troughton
Following an unsuccessful attempt to gain promotion to the PSL because of the recently ended promotion/ relegation play-offs, Stellenbosch has parted ways with Sammy Troughton.
Troughton did a remarkable job as the head coach of the Mother City outfit as he led them to a third place finish on the NFD log, with the team also qualifying for the play-offs.
As reported in edition 1028 of Soccer Laduma, Stellenbosch could be up for sale in the future. Troughton confirmed to the Siya crew that he has parted ways with the club.
“Everyone with contracts up to June 2017 will be leaving. That’s all of us except Steve Barker, who signed a longer deal. He’ll either be paid up or paid out two to three months’ salary if they decide to sell and the new owners don’t want him.
“I’m going back to Pretoria. Stellenbosch seemed to be a nice fresh beginning, but what do you do? Sometimes people smell the success as a failure. Their expectations are unrealistic. I think there was a lot of potential after fighting relegation the season before last,” said Troughton.
