Sinethemba Jantjie linked with Big 3
Having been linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, we take a look at which of the 'big three' Sinethemba Jantjie will be better suited for.

In the Soccer Laduma issue number 1034 Siya special, the Siya crew evaluated the Free State Stars winger’s future, specifically with regards to the interest shown in him by South Africa’s big three teams. However, where is he most needed and where is he most likely to succeed?
When it comes to the reigning African champions, they don’t have pure out-and-out wingers. Sibusiso Vilakazi plays wide mostly. Percy Tau plays as a false number 9, Khama Billiat plays as a number 10, while Themba Zwane and Anthony Laffor play very narrowly. All of the width comes from the fullbacks and therefore, Jantjie would offer something to the team that is not currently part of Pitso Mosimane’s system, which indicates that it may not be the right team for him to play for. However, comparing him to Vilakazi would probably make for the aptest comparison.
Both players are relatively equal in terms of their statistics, but Vilakazi was better in terms of passing, final third passing and shooting. His four goals, compared to Jantjie’s one, provides evidence to the assertion that he is a great goal threat.
However, Sundowns have an abundance of players that can find the net, such as Billiat, Tau and Zwane. Jantjie took more shots from outside of the box, was a superior crosser, dribbler and assisted more shots.
George Lebese is the most creative Chiefs winger and has produced more goals and assists than the rest, while Edmore Chirambadare is the standout player when it comes to out-and-out wing play. His superior crossing and dribbling statistics are a testament to that.
William Twala and Joseph Molangoane both tend to play on the right, but, like Lebese, Twala is capable of playing on either flank. Jantjie, on the other hand, has better crossing attributes than all of the Chiefs wingers but falls just behind Chirambadare in terms of dribbles. However, he can’t match any of them in terms of the end product, goals and assists.
As has been the case with the other two clubs, Jantjie’s end product is not good enough to compete with his would-be teammates. However, at Pirates, his dribbling and crossing statistics are not as good as Luvuyo Memela’s and Riyaad Norodien’s respectively.
Therefore, while Jantjie would have something to offer at Chiefs and Sundowns in terms of traditional wing play, it would appear that he is not needed in any capacity at Pirates. With that said, however, playing for a club of each team’s stature could get the very best out of him and, at the age of 28, his best years are still ahead of him.
Who do you think Jantjie should sign for?
