U17 Coach On Meyiwa’s Age Cheating Allegations
Shawn Bishop Refutes Meyiwa Age Cheating Claims
After allegations emerged that Kaizer Chiefs’ wonderkid, Wiseman Meyiwa, has been lying about his age, his U17 national team assistant coach, Shawn Bishop has lashed out at his accusers, saying that they need to provide evidence to back up their claims before questioning his integrity.
Bishop, who has been part of the Amajimbos setup as the assistant coach, has previously stated in Soccer Laduma issue number 1042 that he is certain that Meyiwa is not age cheating and has now said that those making the allegations have no evidence to prove their claims.
“If they’re accusing him (Meyiwa) of being overage, they must show us the evidence and you (the media) must call them out,” he explained. “Enough is enough.”
Bishop went on to say that he knows nothing about the allegations claiming that Meyiwa previously operated at Maritzburg United as Wiseman Moshoeshoe in 2009 as a 14-year-old. He then concluded that Meyiwa is a special talent and commended Chiefs for discovering him.
“I’ve never heard of that (Meyiwa playing under a different identity),” he continued. “There are boys that were ahead of him in the national team setup, but, in my opinion, Chiefs have done well and he’s worked hard. He’s focused on getting better and better. We knew, three years ago, when he joined the national team setup that he had the potential to be a PSL star.”
