Result: Chippa United 1-0 Kaizer Chiefs
Date: 04 August 2017
Venue: Sisa Dukashe Stadium
Katlego Mashego's free-kick in the dying minutes of the second half handed Chippa United a 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in the Premiers Cup.
Chiefs were without Siphiwe Tshabalala, Bernard Parker, Gustavo Paez and Itumeleng Khune.
Chippa looked lively in the opening exchanges, as they saw a lot of possession in the Chiefs half in the opening 15 minutes.
Chiefs, on the other hand, struggled to get a hold of the ball in the opening 30 minutes and spent most of the half chasing the ball.
However, chances were hard to come by in the first half, despite the Chilli Boys seeing a lot of the possession.
Goalless was how it remained as the sides entered the halftime break, as goalkeepers, Brilliant Khuzwayo and Brighton Mhlongo endured a quiet opening 45 minutes.
Steve Komphela opted for a couple changes at the start of the second half, as he introduced Wiseman Meyiwa and Kgotso Malope.
After a quiet start to the second half for Chippa, Dan Malesela introduced Mark Mayambela and Makudubela in the 53rd minute.
Chippa should have taken the lead four minutes later as Tshwarelo Bereng played in Moeketsi Sekola, who rattled the crossbar with Khuzwayo well beaten.
Chiefs had the first real opening after 76 minutes but Kgotso Moleko failed to beat Mhlongo from inside the small box.
Komphela's charges were then reduced to 10 men in the 90th minute when substitute Sibusiso Khumalo was shown a straight red card.
Chippa snatched the winner from the resulting free-kick, as Mashego curled home a fine free-kick from 25-yards out that left Khuzwayo with no chance.
