Bucs Players Given A Break, Return Date Confirmed
Orlando Pirates Squad To Be Evaluated
Orlando Pirates players have been given a break by the club, following the end of their 2016/17 season.
The Buccaneers ended what has been a disappointing season for the team with a 4-1 loss against SuperSport United in the Nedbank Cup final at the weekend. The club has confirmed that the players have been given a break and will be expected to return for pre-season training in July.
Bucs took to the club’s official website to confirm what is expected to happen at the Soweto giants in the upcoming weeks.
The 2016/17 season has officially come to a close following the conclusion of the Nedbank Cup final between Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United.
As the break signals a downing of tools as it was for the players and some technical team members, there will be no resting for management as they undergo a debriefing of the season.
With the defeat to United, falls the curtain on a rather disappointing season (for) the Buccaneers, who finished outside of the top eight for the first time in their history in the Premier Soccer League, suffering two record defeats at the hand of United (6-1) and Mamelodi Sundowns (6-0) along the way.
Over the next couple of days, management will be going through the entire roster as the Club prepares for the new season.
The players have since been given a break by the Head Coach and will be expected to return for preseason training in the week of the 10th (July 2017).
With the Club failing to qualify for the top eight, this means Jonevret and his charges will have an extended preseason programme which includes the annual Carling Black Label Champions Cup against Kaizer Chiefs on July 29.
The full Orlando Pirates preseason schedule will be released in due course.
