Mamelodi Sundowns Return To Absa Premiership Action
Mamelodi Sundowns will return to Absa Premiership action as they look to recover from their CAF Champions League hangover.
The Brazilians were eliminated from the Champions League after suffering defeat to Wydad Casablanca in the second leg of the quarter-final stages of the competition.
After having three of their league fixtures postponed due to the clash of the CAF dates, Sundowns will now return to Absa Premiership action this weekend, when they lock horns with Platinum Stars on Sunday, October 01 at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.
Head Coach Pitso Mosimane will now be more fired up to go all the way and reclaim the Absa Premiership title, avoiding a repetition of last season’s showing, where Masandawana ended the 2016/17 season without any domestic silverware despite claiming continental glory.
“We want to challenge for everything and we want to challenge in Africa, but it might be easier to compete elsewhere now that we’re out of the Champions League. It also gives us time to reflect to plan for the next edition. We also have an opportunity to reinstate our dominance in the local scene. We have more time to prepare. I don’t see us having problems challenging for titles in South Africa because, obviously, we won’t be fatigued by our participation in the Champions League, but also because we have the hunger to be successful domestically,” Sundowns’ Media Co-ordinator, Thulani Thuswa said in this week’s revolving column in issue number 1042 of Soccer Laduma.
Here are Sundowns’ five upcoming Absa Premiership fixtures:
01/10/2017 – Platinum Stars vs Mamelodi Sundowns
17/10/2017 – Mamelodi Sundowns vs Kaizer Chiefs
21/10/2017 – Mamelodi Sundowns vs AmaZulu FC
01/11/2017 – Orlando Pirates vs Mamelodi Sundowns
21/11/2017 – Bidvest Wits vs Mamelodi Sundowns
