Sundowns And Billiat Contract Talks Reach A Deadlock

Mamelodi Sundowns And Khama Billiat Contract Talks Reached A Deadlock

By Soccer Laduma - Jul 26, 2017 01:19 PM

Mamelodi Sundowns might be faced with yet another battle to tie down one of their star players on a new contract.

It was reported on Soccer Laduma in June that Khama Billiat will be happy to extend his stay with Masandawana, however, on the basis that the club will reduce his hefty €2.5m buyout clause.

The player’s representative, Edzai Kasinauyo, who has since passed away, confirmed to the Siya crew at the time that the player’s camp was assessing Billiat’s options.

“Khama is approaching his 27th birthday and we need to make sure that the next contract that he signs is the right one for him and his career. You know that there are clubs who are interested but Sundowns want to keep him. He is considering his options,” the late Kasinauyo said at the time.

However, soon after, local reports have revealed that a Saudi Arabian club has put in a bid for the Zimbabwean. Sundowns have since opted against commenting on the matter.

The Siya crew has since been informed that Billiat has turned down Sundowns’ new deal after the two parties were unable to come to a mutual agreement regarding the 26-year-old’s salary demands.

As it stands, Billiat still has a year left to run on his existing deal with Sundowns, which means that the player will be able to sign a pre-contract elsewhere come January 2018 and potentially leave on a free at the end of June next year.

However, it remains to be seen whether or not Sundowns will eventually meet the player’s salary demands and conclude a new deal for Billiat in the coming weeks, so as to avoid the risk of losing a player of his calibre on a free at the end of his deal in June 2018.

The shenanigans of Billiat at Sundowns were exposed exclusively by the Sunday Times this past weekend. Sundowns are reportedly unable to control the drunken behaviour of Khama Bill who on numerous occasions has gone to training reeking of alcohol. It is also said that Billiat has been on the wrong side of the law by being found drunk driving and taken to police stations and that officials from Sundowns had to rush to the cop shops to prevent him from being detained in police cells. This has been going on for some time now. He has on one occasion injured himself in the knee while wrestling with the cops who were arresting him for drunk driving in the wee hours of the morning. He situation is so uncontrollable that Sundowns has tried numerous tactics to keep him on the straight and narrow. They have even decided to select him on match day squads even though he is not gonna play in order to keep him in camp and therefore sober...this after fighting with security guards at Loftus who were refusing him entrance to the stadium due to his drunken state. It is also reported that Sundowns players are not happy with the special treatment afforded to Billiat by Pitso and Motsepe while other players who make the simplest of mistakes are given punitive sanctions. Players cannot understand why Billiat is treated with kid gloves and harsh punishment given to others for petty mistakes. It has also emerged that the drunken behaviour and lawlessness of Khama Billiat didn't start at Sundowns but comes way back from his days at Ajax Cape Town. Sundowns are between a rock and a hard place right now. SL must STOP this selective reporting and strive for balanced reporting without fear, favour or prejudice. If it was a Pirates player this would have been reported long time ago!

No individual player/employee will ever define or rule the team/company by himself, it's all about team work and employees will come and go. We're not a one man team. We recruit/buy when the need arise and we keep standing. We'll never close shop as a result of one man

Good decision boi, don't sign a new contract until downs agree to put on a reasonable buyout clause on your head otherwise they'll lose you for free next season

Quality players will come and go, that's the nature of the game. Players have a limited time with their careers. So we've been there and we understand this things unlike others who prey for free agents. We know they try their best to emulate Sundowns hence they keep sniffing on our gates for free agents.
