Date: 15 July 2017

Free State Stars progressed to the Maize Cup final, after they defeated Platinum Stars 1-0 in their semi-final on Saturday morning.

Stars threatened early on and went close in the opening five minutes when Sinethemba Jantjie forced Duma into a fine save from 20-yards out.

Jantjie was not to be denied in the 10th minute as his speculative effort from distance found its way into the net, with goalkeeper, Nhlakanipo Duma letting the ball slip through his legs.

Ea Lla Koto nearly doubled their lead in the 26th minute but Ryan De Jongh rushed back to clear Mohammed Anas' effort off the line.

Dikwena's best chance of the half arrived in the 40th minute when Mduduzi Nyanda rattled the frame of the goal from 20-yards out.

The score remained 1-0 to Ea Lla Koto as the sides entered the halftime break.

Dikwena looked livelier upon resumption in the second half and they nearly leveled matters in the 58th minute but Thobani Kunene headed wide from close range.

After a quiet spell in the half, Ea Lla Koto nearly doubled their lead in the 75th minute but Sifiso Mbhele fired wide of the upright from six-yards out.

Duma then came to Dikwena's rescue once again in the 84th minute, as he produced a good save to deny Nhlanhla Vilakazi from close range.

Dikwena pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but the Free State outfit managed to hold out for the win.

Here's how they line up:

P Stars: Duma, De Jongh, Zulu, Mthenjwa, Gwabeni, Sibeko, Baloyi, Links, Nyanda, Mbatha, Kunene.

FS Stars: Sangare, Mashego, Nkili, Teyise, Mtsweni, Hlubi, Vilakazi, Masehe, Jantjie, Dlamini, Anas.

is free state stars really seriouse about its PSL status?.instead of holding on to its players.it always sells nd loan players.were is Mahamutsa now.nd also in their last few MDC games i saw 2 briliant players.which in mi mind i think they should move straight to first team.that Boy who was wearing jersy No 10.i dnt know hes surname.they call him Adebayor(danile)wat a talent.i so wish Bucs can take him.cos i dont see him progressing in stars
