Lovers: The Days Of Pirates And Chiefs Are Gone
Lovers Mohlala Discusses Chiefs And Pirates' Fading Dominance
Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender, Lovers Mohlala, believes that the days where Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates were the dominant forces in South African football are over.
Mamelodi Sundowns completed the signings of George Lebese and Oupa Manyisa from Chiefs and Pirates respectively in the recently closed transfer window and Mohlala has said that it’s because of the Soweto giants’ fading dominance that their players would rather join the reigning African champions.
“I don’t think Sundowns are stealing rivals’ players. Those Days of Orlando Pirates and (Kaizer) Chiefs are gone. The players that are playing for Chiefs and Pirates want to go to Sundowns – the winds have changed and now it’s no longer Pirates and Chiefs,” he explained.
The 41-year-old went on to say that new arrivals such as George Lebese need to keep their heads down, work hard and, eventually, integration into the team will follow.
“One thing that they need to do is to adopt the attitude that (George) Lebese has, where he’s said that he’s come to play and to represent Sundowns. Once time goes on, he will find out how they work, what they do. By the time you get to that level, you become the best.”
