The Glamour Boys were on the brink of securing their second win of the season at the weekend as they entered into the dying moments of their clash with a 1-0 lead over Bidvest Wits.
However, a lapse in concentration saw Amr Gamal capitalise, scoring a last-minute equaliser and securing a draw for the Clever Boys at FNB Stadium. For the fifth time in the last 10 games Chiefs had gone from leading to either lose or draw a match.
Speaking to Chiefs’ official website afterwards, Komphela said, “We gave it away… We conceded a goal in the last minute. That’s it.”
According to the Amakhosi boss, if a team goes a man down like Wits did, it ‘starts to work harder, while the level of concentration also gets better’.
He also praised his shot-stopper, Khune, saying, “Itu a great talent and he’s very experienced.”
Lastly, on the topic of young Meyiwa – playing only his second game – Komphela said, “He did well. I am trying to guide his movements on the pitch. It was his second game and he came through it with flying colours. Wiseman wrote his own chapter. Now we have to manage the expectations (of) him.”
Chiefs’ next game sees them face Maritzburg United on Wednesday, a team that is currently on top of the Absa Premiership table.
