Khune To Captain Bafana
Itumeleng Khune Is Set To Captain Bafana Bafana
The South African Football Association has confirmed that Itumeleng Khune will be captaining Bafana Bafana should the goalkeeper pass his fitness test.
Head Coach Stuart Baxter was forced to make two more changes to his 25-man squad ahead of Saturday’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying encounter after having to withdraw Erick Mathoho and team captain, Thulani Hlatshwayo from the squad.
However, Mamelodi Sundowns’ Motjeka Madisha and Cape Town City’s Robyn Johannes were the two players to receive call-ups to replace the injured duo in the Bafana squad.
SAFA have confirmed that Khune will be captaining Bafana against Burkina Faso on Saturday, however, this pending a shoulder assessment on the shot-stopper.
“And there could also be another change in the goalkeeping department as goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune back in the mix after missing out the Cape Verde fixtures following a chest infection.
"Pending a shoulder injury assessment, Khune will captain the team against Burkina Faso,” SAFA revealed on their official website.
The South African national team will host Burkina at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, October 07 in a must-win 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying encounter for Head Coach Baxter’s side.
