Danny Jordaan Talks About Exciting Times For Mzansi Football
The South African Football Association president, Danny Jordaan, says that Mzansi football is going through an era of exciting times with the win over Nigeria being one of the most monumental achievements.
Bafana Bafana defeated Nigeria 2-0 in the opening encounter of the Africa Cup Of Nations qualifiers and along with the record win over the Super Eagles, SAFA president has reflected on the many achievements in Mzansi football.
Speaking to SAFA’s official website, Jordaan said, “These are exciting times for South African football. We beat Nigeria in Nigeria and it could easily have been by a far bigger margin but it was a massive win nonetheless.”
Bafana will only play their next two AFCON qualification matches next year, March 19 and September 05, against Libya and Seychelles respectively.
“So I think this history of and fear of playing against Nigeria has been dismissed after the boys gave a good account of themselves and that is a significant first match for our qualifications for 2019 AFCON. We now have to play Libya and Seychelles and if we win those matches then we will have a foot in the door for CAF AFCON 2019,” Jordaan added.
The SAFA president then went on to recognise the other structures in the national team, such as the U17, U20, U23 and Banyana Banyana.
“We must also not forget that our U17, U20 teams qualified for the World Cup while our U23 team went to the Olympics. Banyana Banyana qualified for the Olympics and also qualified for two consecutive Africa Cup of Nations tournaments in 2014 and 2016 and they are now preparing for the 2019 Women’s World Cup qualifiers,” he said.
