City Solve Dispute With Celtic, No DRC Case

By Soccer Laduma - Jul 20, 2017 11:44 AM

Cape Town City solved their dispute with Bloemfontein Celtic regarding the signing of Lyle Lakay.

The Mother City-based club announced the signing of the 25-year-old earlier this month, with it still being unclear whether the player was a free agent or not.

Lakay believed that his contract with Celtic supposedly came to an end on June, 30, however, Celtic believed that the midfielder had one more year left to run on his deal with the club.

At the time, Celtic was set to present their case to a DRC, however, the club since confirmed that the dispute has been solved, after City midfielder, Given Mashikinya, signed for Celtic earlier this week, in what was believed to be a swap deal for the services of Lakay.

“We are glad that the matter between ourselves and City concerning Lakay has been solved harmoniously. Lakay was still contracted to the team and even though he wanted to leave, it was prudent for him to follow appropriate procedures,” Celtic CEO Khumbulani Konco confirmed on their official website.

“City approached us in a professional way trying to solve the matter and after deliberations and also consultation with our technical team, we agreed to sign Given and allow Lyle to join them,” he added.
