Chippa Defender Pleased For New Start
Chippa United Defender Looking Forward To New Start
Chippa United defender, Ayabulela Konqobe, says he is pleased to have teamed up with the Port Elizabeth outfit for the resumption of the 2017/18 season.
The former SA U20 captain was signed by the Eastern Cape outfit in June. However, instead of reporting for duty at the Chilli Boys, the player went on to join AmaZulu, after the KwaZulu-Natal club finalised purchasing the PSL status of Thanda Royal Zulu.
Chippa approached the Premier Soccer League’s Dispute Resolution Chamber to challenge Konqobe’s move to AmaZulu. Konqobe has since left Usuthu to join Chippa in PE in a swap deal involving Rhulani Manzini who has moved to KZN, as confirmed by the PSL returnees.
Following his arrival at Chippa, Konqobe has since spoken about working under Dan Malesela.
“I am very excited to be part of Chippa United. It’s a new start, new journey and new challenge for me to become a better person and player. The reception was amazing, meeting a lot of players that I’ve played with, players who come from the same place as me. Head Coach, Dan Malesela was brilliant from day one giving me a warm welcome and I’m excited to be working with him,” Konqobe told Chippa’s official website.
According to the club, the 21-year-old has refused to 'dwell on reasons for the delay in him joining’ them.
“Yeah it’s a huge relief, it’s never nice knowing you might be out for a long time cause of certain things you can’t control, but I’m glad it was just fixed swiftly and quickly. So now it’s up to me to focus on my football cause that’s the only motivation that kept me going,” concluded the player.
