Banks: Komphela Won’t Have Any Excuses This Season
Chiefs Legend Discusses Steve Komphela's Future
Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Banks Setlhodi says that this season is Steve Komphela’s last chance to win with the club because he’s had enough time to acclimatise to the team and there will be no more excuses.
Komphela is now entering his third campaign in charge of Amakhosi, having guided the team to two consecutive trophyless seasons and the 70-year-old has said that the football fraternity needs to wait for the start of the season before they can reserve judgement on Komphela’s prospects for the 2017/18 campaign.
“I think, for now, it’s still early to say (how he’s going to perform). We can’t really judge him, so let’s wait before we judge him. Now, he has had two seasons and he’s acclimatised (to the team),” Setlhodi explained. “After that, he now knows exactly what is needed at the team.”
The former shot-stopper added that, with Komphela being afforded the time to get used to the environment in the Amakhosi hot seat, there will be no more excuses for the former Maritzburg United coach should he fail to get results.
“How about we wait for the season to begin because we know that he has the capacity to teach the players to operate as a good team,” he continued. “They are a good team and he’s got the players he wants. This time, not winning (any trophies) will be a failure. He will be failing because he won’t have any excuses.”
