Agent Confident Mhlongo Will Be Playing For Chippa

Brighton Mhlongo’s Agent Says The Goalkeeper Belongs To Chippa United

By Soccer Laduma - Jul 25, 2017 12:55 PM

Brighton Mhlongo’s representatives from Prosport International have reiterated that the goalkeeper will be turning out for Chippa United in the upcoming 2017/18 season, following reports that he will be heading back to Orlando Pirates.

Last week Chippa confirmed that the Orlando Pirates goalkeeper had been signed on a permanent long-term deal and would be turning out for the Chilli Boys this season.

“Executive Chairman, Chippa Mpengesi has confirmed the signing of the goalkeeper, Brighton Mhlongo on a 3 year deal from Orlando Pirates,” the Port Elizabeth club tweeted on Tuesday last week.

In his confirmation of Mhlongo’s capture on the club’s official website, club boss Chippa Mpengesi thanked Pirates and the club’s chairman Dr Irvin Khoza, as well as the player’s representatives.

“We are pleased to confirm that Brighton will don the Chippa United jersey for the next three years. He is one of the top goalkeepers in the country, and his arrival can only strengthen us going to the season ahead. Thank you to Dr Khoza and Orlando Pirates, they once again showed their professionalism during negotiations.

"I would also like to thank Prosport International for their contribution in making this deal happen. Lastly my Management Team down (in) Port Elizabeth, in particular, Mr Peter Koutroulis who worked tirelessly in tying up this deal,” Mpengesi told Chippa’s website at the time.

Local media reports have now linked Mhlongo with a move back to Pirates, in what seems to be a twist in events. Despite the reports, Mhlongo’s agent, Mike Makaab, is confident that the 26-year-old will turn out for the Chilli Boys in the new season. “Brighton will be playing for Chippa this season,” said Makaab.

Attempts have been made by the Siya crew to get a comment from the two clubs, however, both Pirates’ Floyd Mbele and Chippa’s Peter Koutroulis were not immediately available to discuss the player’s transfer.

@alizebucs1986 amongst your favourites who didn't cost us? The problem was not with the goalkeepers in our club bt with midfield that cause the defence to be more vulnurable iF defence is vulnerable so is goalkeeper. Bear in mind all our goalkeepers were once Bafana Bafana material ao what changed them overnite to be the worst goalminders in the league? Another factor that I suspect Goalkeeper Coach is not good for the team.

I'm sure we'll regrete letting Mhlongo go, if he's really leaving, he is better than all our current goalkeepers except Danniel, I can't say much about him as I have never seen him play, but the rest can not be compared to Mhlongo, he is our best, all he needs is our support and support from the management to boost up his confidence.. only thing that let our keepers down last season was lack of quality, commitment and communication to our backline. Taking away arm band from Manyisa would be a wise move by Pirates because eversince he took over as a captain, our players lost their discipline and focus, their focus is on social media. Orlando Pirates lost their dignity the minute they appointed Manyisa as a captain or should I say the minute Lekgwathi stopped playing. Orlando Pirates needs a fearless leader who can lead them to victories once again, because last season was hectic hence everyone wanted to play against Pirates for free points.. maybe Marc van Heerden can do the job I'm not sure, but this thing of Manyisa being captain is not working for us.
