Rodgers Breaks Silence On ‘Outstanding’ Coetzee Signing

Brendan Rodgers Has Spoken About Bafana's Rivaldo Coetzee

By Joe Crann - Aug 23, 2017 08:28 AM @YesWeCrann
Glasgow Celtic’s head coach, Brendan Rodgers, has finally spoken out about the signing of Rivaldo Coetzee from Ajax Cape Town, although insisted that it’s not a done deal yet.

The 20-year-old is on the brink of joining the Scottish giants after the two clubs agreed to terms earlier this week, with the move subject to both a medical and a work permit.

Speaking after Celtic – who beat Astana 8-4 on aggregate – secured their spot in the group stages of this year’s UEFA Champions League, Rodgers spoke to BT Sport about the pending arrival of the Bafana Bafana international.

He said, “Well I believe there’s been an agreement. There’s a medical and whatnot to go through. He’s an outstanding young player that we think can help us, but it’s not complete yet.”

Meanwhile, on the topic of whether ‘Riva’ would go in as an automatic starter or be a player for the future, he replied, “Well it’s something that we’ll look at when he comes in. He’s obviously in his pre-season as well, but we’ll see. It’s not just for the now, it’s for the longer term.

“He’s a player that can come straight in, he’s a full international player so has great qualities - good defensive qualities - and if we can get that done then it’ll be a very good signing for us.”

Coetzee is expected to finalise his move to Scotland within the next week.

If he maintains his calm attitude in the field of play then he will attract the interest from Pep Guardiola. Emagine the combination of Rivaldo Coetzee and John Stones at Man City two years from now. Riva is our next worldcup captain that will be capable to lead us to the round of 16.

@kgotso kgatla you know football, but we're not on the rise. Most people in our country love football, few know it. Look at how chiefs wasted Baloyi? Pirates Masalesa? For me if someone needs to grow as a footballer Chiefs and pirates are not the options. Those guys,Jali,Rakhale,Ekstein etc are way below par.they are cheered by those who don't know football

SA is on the rise.we need this lads to learn to be decisive.talent alone without that your doomed.thats y in SA we embrace guys like rakhales, qalinges, eksien of this world but at international level they have got no room.hence you see people preferring your less talented players like jali or sangweni over mokokotjo but fact is mokotjo is way miles ahead of them

Cape Town Player Agents find it easy to take the players they represent to well known teams abroad, they took Serero (Ajax Amsterdam) , Bennie, Quinton Fortune (ManU), Steven Pienaar(Everton). Gauteng Player Agents are taking their players to Motsepe League standard abroad. What is SAFPU reaction to this?
