Best & Worst: Maritzburg v Chiefs

Best & Worst: Maritzburg v Chiefs

By Soccer Laduma - Sep 21, 2017 12:46 AM

Soccer Laduma selects the six best and four worst performers, following Kaizer Chiefs' 2-0 win over Maritzburg United.

Best:

Itumeleng Khune: 8/10

Khune made breathtaking saves to keep Maritzburg at bay and topped it off with a penalty save in the second half.

Gustavo Paez: 8/10

Paez did well to trouble the Maritzburg defence with his movement and he scored two crucial goals for the Amakhosi.

Siphiwe Tshabalala: 7/10

Tshabalala was outstanding again for Amakhosi. His ability to find pockets of spaces in the middle of the park won the game for Steve Komphela's charges.

Yazid Atouba: 7/10

The Cameroon international was unlucky not to score on the night. He was a live wire for the Team of Choice throughout.

Evans Rusike: 6.5/10

If it wasn't for Khune's brilliance, Rusike like Atouba, could have put Maritzburg on the score-sheet. His hussling and burstling up front was hard to contain for Lorenzo Gordinho and company.

Lebohang Maboe: 6.5/10

Maboe  covered a lot ground for the hosts, and still created openings while keeping the team ticking.

Worst:

Andrea Fillecia: 4/10

The Belgian striker was isolated upfront on the night. He had little effect, if any, in the game.

Bongolethu Jayiya: 5/10

Jayiya's speed was neutralised on the night. He could not hurt Maritzburg upfront.

Wiseman Meyiwa: 5/10

The youngster started off well but faded as Maritzburg upped the tempo in the second half,

Bevan Fransman: 5/10

Didn't have a bad game, but he, along with Xulu, failed to deal with Paez who was allowed to enter the through middle on a couple occassions.

Let us give Meyiwa and Malope a fair chance, the stage for these youngsters is very high but they are trying very hard. Chiefs fitness trainer has to give them fitness programme and support.Steve we are waiting to see Zuma & Malongoane, Great things are still coming from Moon & Letlotlo once they're back from their respective injuries.

Steve is developing balls now. He is giving deserving players game time. The likes of Meyiwa and Malope, and next in line is Bunting. Chimbaradare, Thwala, Molanguane and Ekstein must fight for their positions.
