Ajax Cape Town Captain Left Out Of Pre-Season Camp, Future At The Club Uncertain
Ajax Cape Town confirmed that their team captain, Travis Graham, has not travelled with the squad to Gauteng after the player allegedly indicated his desire to move on from the Urban Warriors.
It has been reported in local media recently that the 26-year-old is looking to take the next step of his professional football career, however, Graham is currently locked in talks and negotiations with Ajax management about his immediate future at the club.
It has since been confirmed to the Siya crew that Graham has not travelled with the squad for the pre-season camp, with the club indicating that it makes no sense for the player to be involved in preparations for the new season if he no longer intends to be part of the club.
The club’s Head of Communication’s Thabiso ‘Shooz’ Mekuto confirmed the news to Soccer Laduma by saying, “He (Travis Graham) is training, the only thing that he doesn’t do is that he doesn’t play matches. It makes no sense in having someone who doesn’t intend to be around, to be involved in match situations. But, he is still training.
“Unfortunately, the team is at (the) pre-season camp in Johannesburg and they are playing games, so in that regard, he obviously can’t be part of it, so he stayed. He is training now with the players who haven’t left to camp, so it is business as usual for him but if he was part of the team for the new season as per his wishes, he would have been in Joburg now.
“Yes (he is in talks with management) he has to resolve his issues with Ari (Efstathiou), it is a personal issue. In terms of the day-to-day, he is training. The coach has no issues with the player who has personal challenges with the team, he only wants a player’s mind focused on the plan for the new season, that’s basically the bottom line,” Mekuto concluded.
