Result: Polokwane City 2-2 Orlando Pirates
Date: 30 September 2017
Venue: Peter Mokaba Stadium
Polokwane City squandered an opportunity for three points when they played out to an entertaining 2-2 draw against Orlando Pirates.
Orlando Pirates looked comfortable and in control of proceedings and created the first chance of the game. Musa Nyatama played a ball over the Polokwane City defense to an on-running Thamsanqa Gabuza, with the latter firing a firm shot that was parried away by Harold Ndlovu.
Moments later the shot stopper was called into action when Mpho Makola struck a powerful shot from a free-kick looked destined for goal until Ndlovu fisted the ball over the bar.
Great interplay from Pirates saw a great one-two between Mthokozisi Dube and Gabuza. The attempted clearance from the defensive clearance ricocheted against Gabuza and almost into the back of the net but was tipped over the bar by Ndlovu.
Rise and Shine got their first shot on goal on the 50th minute mark when Seabi shot from the penalty spot but his effort was safely handled by Wayne Sandilands.
Pirates countered swiftly with Thembinkosi Lorch playing Thamsanqa Gabuza through to finish in an empty net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
The Buccaneers were looking for a second and Abbubaker Mobara struck a powerful swerving shot which was awkwardly kicked away by Harold Ndlovu in the Polokwane City goal.
The keeper was having a busy day in goal and had to be at his best to save a shot from a one on one with Lorch and gathered the rebound from Gabuza.
City made Pirates pay for their missed chances as they equalized from a Rendani Ndou header after a beautiful cross from Rodney Ramagalela.
The game turned on it’s head when a great run through midfield from Jabulani Maluleke put Ramagalela through and goal and the forward struck beautifully to put his side 2-1 ahead.
With a minute remaining, a long ball from Musa Nyatama found Gabuza in the City box and the striker flicked the ball over Ndlovu and into the back of the net to rescue a point for Pirates at the death.
