There was a lot of huffing and puffing in the opening exchanges of the match but Fortune Makaringe nearly opened the scoring with a thunderous strike in the seventh minute from 25-yards out.
The two sides were struggling to find rhythm in the game as they could not create clear-cut goalscoring opportunities after 20 minutes.
Evans Rusike hit a grass-cutting free-kick from just outside the edge of the box in the 27th minute but his effort missed narrowly, striking the side netting.
Luc Eymael's troops kept a good structure defensively to deny the likes of Lebohang Maboe space upfront as the first stanza ended goalless.
On the hour-mark, Fadlu Davids made a tactical substitution with striker Andrea Fillecia making way for midfielder Devon Saal.
Edward Manqele should have broken the deadlock in the 68th minute when he hit a snap shot from just outside the box but missed narrowly wide, after being given acres of space.
Sinethemba Jantjie broke the deadlock eventually for Stars in the 72nd minute in a brilliant fashion, hitting a left-footed screamer from a tight angle inside the 18-yard box, 0-1.
Ea Lla Koto were catching the Team of Choice on counter-attacks as they hit the upright twice in quick succession following a break attack in the 80th minute.
The hosts threw men forward in the last ten minutes of the encounter, but Stars stayed resolute to claim the away win.
