Arrows & Celtic Share The Spoils
Absa Premiership Report: Golden Arrows v Bloemfontein Celtic 23 August 2017
Result: Golden Arrows 1-1 Bloemfontein Celtic
Date: 23 August 2017
Venue: Princess Magogo Stadium
Golden Arrows and Bloemfontein Celtic could not be separated, as they played out a 1-1 draw at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday evening.
It was the visitors who had the better start as their early pressure finally paid off in the sixth minute. Siwelele earned an offensive free-kick which was well finished by Roggert Nyundu to give his side the early lead.
Arrows tried to put some pressure on their opposition moments later, but Wayde Jooste’s header sailed over the bar.
Siphelele Magubane was a constant threat to the Celtic defence, as his pace and skill were lot to handle. The winger did well to feed in Musa Bilankulu but the latter saw his shot go over the cross bar.
Arrows were awarded a penalty near the end of the half, which Kudakwashe Mahachi Mahachi stepped up to convert and equalise for his team.
1-1 was how things ended in what was an entertaining first half.
The second half started much like the first with Arrows in the ascendancy. Wayde Jooste and Mahachi combined well to create a chance on the hour mark with the resulting shot going wide of the post.
The visitors also put together a few combinations in the middle but found the Arrows rear guard quite vigilant on the night.
Both teams were showing great attacking intent but the defences stood strong on the night as the first half goals by Nyundu for Celtic and Mahachi for Arrows saw the game end in a second successive 1 – 1 draw for both teams.
Both Celtic and Arrows are yet to register a win this season, as they sit in eighth and ninth spot respectively.
