Sekola & Mabaso Lead To Chippa To Victory
Absa Premiership Report: AmaZulu v Chippa United 22 August 2017
Result: Chippa United 2-0 AmaZulu
Date: 22 August 2017
Venue: Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium
Chippa United registered their first win of the Absa Premiership season after defeating AmaZulu 2-0 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
It was a slow start in terms of action at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium as neither team managed to dominate early on.
AmaZulu got the first opportunity of the match when Michael Morton found space in the opposition box but his header flew over the crossbar.
It was a tug of war thereafter as both teams looked to take control of the game. The home side was growing in confidence and were playing enterprising football in trying to unlock the defence of Usuthu.
The AmaZulu defence was finally unlocked as great interplay between Kurt Lentjies and Moeketsi Sekola saw the latter finish clinically to put his team ahead just on the 40-minute mark.
The goal was the only one of the half as the Chilli Boys went into the break leading 1- 0.
Chippa United began the second half much like they ended the first with their midfield looking more comfortable and the more dominant.
Opportunities were few and far between as Chippa did well to retain the ball with AmaZulu struggling.
Abel Mabaso further compounded AmaZulu’s woes when he finished neatly to double his side’s lead in the 80th minute after a period of being in control of the game.
2 – 0 is how it ended as goals from Sekola and Mabaso were enough to secure maximum points for Chippa United.
Here's how they lined up:
Chippa: 29. Mhlongo, 24. Thopola, 4. Macheke, 2. Okwuosa, 17. Maphanga, 11. Mayambela, 15. Zuke, 27. Mabaso, 26. Mbokoma, 32. Lentjies, 9. Sekola.
