MATCHDAY: Chiefs Undefeated Against Arrows At Home For 5 Years
Absa Premiership Preview 23 September 2017
Orlando Pirates travel to Bidvest Wits today in the most notablefixture in the Absa Premiership today, while Kaizer Chiefs play host to table toppers, Golden Arrows.
While Pirates’ fortunes that saw them finish outside of the top eight in 2016/17 have turned around, and they have gone unbeaten in their opening five games of the campaign, it has been the exact opposite for last season’s champions, who are currently winless and second from bottom in the league standings.
Both teams have only managed four goals this season, the joint tenth lowest return in the league this season, but the difference has been found at the back, with Wits conceding 10, the worst in the league, and Pirates conceding just once, the best record in the league.
However, Pirates have not won any of their last six games at Bidvest Stadium and have lost all of their last three when travelling to The Students. Gavin Hunt’s men will hope that the historical advantage will, therefore, count in their favour as they look to return to winning ways.
Elsewhere, Kaizer Chiefs will take on Golden Arrows at the FNB Stadium, with Abafana Bes’thende currently sitting at the top of the Absa Premiership standings, having embarked on a three-match winning streak, including the 1-0 victory over Platinum Stars in midweek. Chiefs, on the other hand, came away with a win against Maritzburg United in the midweek fixture, having beaten Cape Town City and drawn away at Wits before that.
Chiefs and Arrows have the best goal tallies this season with seven and 10 scored respectively, while they are level in terms of goals conceded (four). However, Chiefs hold the advantage in terms of the last four matches against Arrows at home, where they are undefeated in the last four have won three of those encounters. The match holds significance due to the fact that the result could have a major impact on what the top of the table could look like, come the end of the weekend.
In other action today, Ajax Cape Town travel to second-placed Baroka, who are also undefeated this season and bottom-of-the-table, Platinum Stars will travel to AmaZulu.
