Absa Premiership Champion Assessing His European Options

Absa Premiership Champion Assessing His European Options

By Soccer Laduma - Jun 22, 2017 01:13 PM

Bidvest Wits’ Phakamani Mahlambi could still make his way to Europe in the near future, with his agent confirming that the player’s camp was still assessing his options abroad.

The 19-year-old was a valuable contributor in Head Coach Gavin Hunt’s 2016/17 Absa Premiership winning squad, proving influential when not sidelined by injury.

Mahlambi recently extended his stay with the Students until 2021 and despite committing his future to the club, a move abroad is still on the cards for the young striker.

In March this year, the Siya crew revealed that a number of European suitors were keeping a close eye on the player, with one French scout previously jetting in to get a closer look at Mahlambi.

The 19-year-old was included in Head Coach Thabo Senong’s U20 FIFA World Cup squad, however, had to be withdrawn due to injury, which saw him miss out on the chance to showcase his talents on the world stage.

However, despite not attending the U20 World Cup, the player’s representative, Glyn Binkin, is confident that the player will be able to land a suitable European deal in the near future.

“In terms of Phakamani (Mahlambi), we are assessing a number of options for him abroad but it’s very early in the process. It was a real pity he didn’t go to the World Cup, as it would have been a great platform for him to showcase his talent. Nonetheless, I’m still confident that we will find something suitable for him in the near future,” Binkin told the Siya crew in this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma.
