What Would It Take If Cape Town City Want To Sign Kaizer Chiefs' George Lebese?
There are just nine days left until the upcoming July/August transfer window with clubs in the Premier Soccer League eager to bolster their squad for the new season and Soccer Laduma takes a look at one transfer that could possibly happen.
Earlier this month, Kaizer Chiefs’ George Lebese took to his official Twitter account saying, “All I wanna do is play football (regardless) of what colour t-shirt I have on.”
This post caused a stir in the football fraternity as many believed that it was arguably an indication from the player about his frustration in his diminished game time with Amakhosi.
Lebese has one more year left on his contract with the Soweto giants and with indications that he might be unhappy with his lack of game time at the club, could a move away from Naturena be on the cards for the player?
Cape Town City was one of the clubs who responded to the player’s above-mentioned tweet, hinting at a possible interest in the player’s services.
However, if City is interested in the 28-year-old, the club will have to approach the Amakhosi management directly with an offer and with just 12 months left on his contract, the club might be open to talks and discussions about the player’s future.
Besides negotiating a transfer and the deal, the issue of where Lebese would fit into the City squad comes into play.
City has star player, Aubrey Ngoma, who has been instrumental on the left wing for the Mother City-based club and it is understood that having two left-wingers of great calibre could be a headache for Head Coach, Benni McCarthy.
However, this only if Ngoma will remain at the club in the new season, amidst known interest from Mamelodi Sundowns.
Although, it will ultimately come down to whether or not Lebese wants to leave Amakhosi and if City would be his desired destination.
However, it is the belief that Lebese will look to land a desirable personal package wherever he goes as he approaches the prime of his career and if a possible move to City is on the cards for the player, it remains to be seen whether the club will be able to meet his personal demands.
