Transfer Update: Sundowns Set Sights On Defender

Transfer Update: Mamelodi Sundowns Set Sights On Defender

By Soccer Laduma - Jun 28, 2017 05:30 PM

Mamelodi Sundowns have set their sights on a Maritzburg United defender in the case that they are unable to land the signature of in-demand Bafana Bafana international, Rivaldo Coetzee.

Soccer Laduma revealed last month that Sundowns approached Ajax Cape Town for the services of Coetzee, however, it was not long after that the club’s chairman, Ari Efstathiou confirmed to the Siya crew that he was in Europe at the time attending to football business which included discussions about a potential European move for the 20-year-old.

However, Sundowns are known to be keen on securing the player’s signature for the 2017/18 campaign, although, the club will be keeping their options open and as reported in this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma, the CAF Champions League winners have set their sights on the Team of Choice’s Brian Onyango.

The centre back was influential for Maritrzburg during the 2016/17 season, where he made 22 appearances and scored four goals.

The Kenyan is currently contracted to Maritzburg and should Sundowns look to approach the Team of Choice for Onyango, the Chloorkop-based club will have to table an offer to the club.

If management at Maritzburg is open to the sale of the player, the deal can go one of two ways, either a straight transfer fee will be paid by the Brazilians for Onyango’s services or Sundowns can propose a potential swap deal.

However, much will depend on whether or not Masandawana are able to land the signature of Coetzee and as it stands, indications are that Ajax would opt to sell the 20-year-old Bafana international to a club abroad rather than losing his services to one of their PSL rivals.

"I want to finish my career at Sundowns,” Arendse told INDIDANE. “You want to play in the Champions League and for a team that's competing for the league title every season. That's where Sundowns is. That's why I committed. The hard work continues," Arendse continued. Next up for Sundowns is a crunch Caf Champions League encounter in Ethiopia, and Arendse has expressed that only victory will do if they are to keep their hopes of defending the title alive. "We have to win just to be up there on the table. Even St George are thinking the same thing. It will be a good game to watch because both teams will attack. I think we will do well," Wayne Arendse concluded

Rivaldo is one overated palyer and don't think he have it in him to compete with the likes of Ricardo, Madisha or Arendse at center back. Kwanda is better than Onyango so is advisable to bring back Kwanda and Buhle Mkhwanazi instead of chasing Overated Rivaldo and Mandela Onyango

Brian will be a right fit to Masandawana. He is strong on the ball. Rivaldo is good player but not as good for Sundowns.

If Maritzburg sell all these players it will be a clear sabotage on Fadlu Davids. They can't give the coach a mandate of finishing in the top five, play atleast one final and then sell their best best players??? How are they expecting him to win and fulfill his mandate??!!

Sundowns are not losers. If they can't reach for Coetzee, they'd ply their trade elsewhere and still win. Come next season, Pirates and Chiefs along side their fans will be of great audience to those who play real football

@Olerilwe your a disgrace u can't even say Onyango and furthermore when u write someone's name am surname u start with capital letters. On the flip side I don't think Sundowns will sign Brian Onyango as they have 5 foreigners unless they offload 1 that could be Bangaly in my opinion.
