Transfer Update: Mamelodi Sundowns On Verge Of Losing Goalkeeper To Maritzburg United
Maritzburg United is closing in on landing the signature of one of Mamelodi Sundowns’ goalkeepers whose contract with the Brazilians comes to an end today, June 30.
The Siya crew revealed yesterday that Sundowns has still not made a decision on whether or not the club will be extending the stay of Wayne Sandilands beyond the 2016/17 season.
Despite the player’s camp and Masandawana previously been locked in ongoing talks and negotiations about a new deal for Sandilands, indications are that the two parties were unable to mutually agree on a decision.
The Siya crew has since been informed by a source close to the Team of Choice that the KwaZulu-Natal-based side is closing in on landing the signature of the 33-year-old shot-stopper. It is also understood that an announcement about a deal for the player could be made soon.
Maritzburg recently appointed Fadlu Davids as the permanent head coach at the Team of Choice after his impressive spell leading the team’s bench towards the end of the 2016/17 season.
The Team of Choice currently have on their books, Virgil Vries and Bongani Mpandle as first and second-choice stoppers.
Indications are that Head Coach Davids has already set his sights on new signings to bolster his squad for the new 2017/18 season and it remains to be seen when an announcement about Sandilands will be made.
