SuperSport Close In On Boateng

SuperSport United Are Close To Signing Richard Kissi Boateng

By Soccer Laduma - Aug 31, 2017 11:40 AM
SuperSport United are believed to be closing in on signing Richard Kissi Boateng, with the Ghanaian international having impressed during his time at the club.

The 28-year-old, who is a free agent after ending a short time with Liberty Professionals in Ghana, made his name at TP Mazembe after signing for the Congolese giants back in 2013, and it now looks as though he could be on his way to the Absa Premiership.

According to Siya sources, with Onismor Bhasera (hip) and Thato Mokeke (bone fracture) both being sidelined for some time, Eric Tinkler sees Boateng as a player who can come in and battle it out with Keegan Ritchie on the left side of the defence.

While a deal is not yet finalised, the Siya crew have been led to believe that SuperSport are eager to sign the player, however, are not governed by the transfer window, given that the former Berekum Arsenal man is a free agent.

If the move does go through then Boateng would be the second foreign signing of the season for Matsatsantsa after they snapped up Azubuike Egwuekwe earlier this month.

SuperSport are looking to shore up their left-back options following injuries to Thato Mokeke and Onismor Bhasera. According to a source at United, the club are in contact with Phungwayo's representatives with a view to recruiting his services. "The club is searching for a left-back," the source says. "They are short in the left-back position after the injuries to both Bhasera and Mokeke. "Phungwayo has been identified as a capable candidate to fill in the left-back spot at SuperSport." Phungwayo is yet to feature this season, having made 17 appearances last term. Matsatsantsa recently bolstered their backline with the acquisition of Nigerian centre-back Azubuike Egwuekwe from Finnish side KuPS.
