PSL Coaching Changes: Polokwane Linked With New Coach
Polokwane City Could Make Coaching Changes
Polokwane City could be the next PSL club to make coaching changes this season.
Rise and Shine are struggling at the bottom half of the Absa Premiership log with just one win from five games. The team has collected four points out of a possible fifteen from their five games so far this season.
Polokwane’s 3-2 loss against Free State Stars on Tuesday pushed the team down to position 13 on the log. Bernard Molekwa and the team visit Cape Town City in the Mother City in their next game, which will be on Friday.
According to sources close to the Rise and Shine camp, the club is seriously considering making technical team changes. Dan Malesela, who recently parted ways with Chippa United, is targeted for a head coaching role at Polokwane.
“The club is likely to make coaching changes due to the team’s disappointing results. The talk about him (Malesela) has gained momentum. The players are talking about him. He has been the club’s target for the head coach’s position for some time. Bernard’s original position at the club was that of team manager. He is likely to go back to that role,” said the source.
Polokwane’s only win this season was against Mamelodi Sundowns in August, which followed their draw against Baroka in the opening league game of the campaign.
Under Molekwa’s guidance, the Limpopo outfit lost consecutive games against Bloemfontein Celtic, Ajax Cape Town and Ea Lla Koto.
