Bucs’ Interest In Defender On Hold
Pirates’ Interest In Defender Has Been Put On Hold
Despite the interest from Orlando Pirates on Diamond Thopola from Chippa United, the player is likely to stay put with his current employers in Port Elizabeth.
Thopola emerged as one of the transfer targets for Bucs in this transfer window. However, an indication from sources close to the Chilli Boys is that the team’s coach Dan Malesela is not willing to lose the player at this stage.
Moreover, it seems as if Bucs and Chippa have finalised their business for the time being, after the Soweto giants signed Thamsanqa Sangweni from the Eastern Cape club, while the likes of Brighton Mhlongo, James Okwuosa and Mahlatse Makudubela have moved the opposite direction from Pirates.
“It’s true that the player’s name has been discussed about a potential move to Pirates, however, it is unlikely to happen during this transfer window. Maybe it can happen in the future.
“What is also true is that the player’s contract with Chippa will come to an end at the end of next season. Chippa is keen to extend the player’s contract. The club wants to add another year on his contract, but there has been no guarantee as yet on whether the player will extend his contract with the club or not.
“What is certain is that he will be a free agent if things remain the same at the end of the upcoming season. He can then join Pirates or any other interested club on a free,” said the source.
