Bucs Coach’s Future To Be Decided
Orlando Pirates To Decide The Future Of The Coach
Kjell Jonevret's future as the head coach of Orlando Pirates is yet to be decided, as reported in the latest edition of Soccer Laduma.
The Buccaneers are expected to make that decision before the team’s return from their off-season break.
Jonevret jetted back into South Africa on Wednesday. While he is expecting to continue in his role as the Pirates head coach, Siya sources have indicated that his future at the helm is undecided as yet.
Bucs finished the 2016/17 season in 11th place on the Absa Premiership log, only six points above relegated Highlands Park. It is the first time in the club’s history, in the PSL era, that they have finished outside of the Top 8.
Although Jonevret did not start the season in the hot seat, it was under him and his technical team comprising of Harold ‘Jazzy Queen’ Legodi and Benson Mhlongo that the team finished the season outside of the Top 8.
While he managed to lead the team to the Nedbank Cup final, Jonevret’s chances of remaining at the club for the upcoming season were dented with the 4-1 loss to SuperSport United in the cup competition.
While the Swedish coach is believed to be keen on staying on as the Bucs mentor, and having the team under his watch from as early as pre-season, Siya sources have indicated that his future is being discussed by club management.
According to the sources, there have been different opinions within the club’s management regarding Jonevret’s future.
It is believed that some factions within the Pirates camp do want the coach to stay on so that he can start a new season with the team, while others seem to think that they have seen enough of what the Swede has to offer, and have lost faith in him.
