Downs Keen On Celtic Star
Mamelodi Sundowns Target Bloemfontein Celtic Star
Bloemfontein Celtic’s Wandisile Letlabika has made it onto Mamelodi Sundowns' list of transfer targets, according to sources in the know.
The Brazilians, who have already signed the likes of Oupa Manyisa, George Lebese and Thokozani Sekotlong, are believed to have identified the centre back as a possible target.
Downs are looking to bolster their defence with a quality centre back before the close of the transfer window. Sundowns have missed out on one of their primary transfer targets, in Rivaldo Coetzee, who is expected to complete a move to Scottish giants Glasgow Celtic from Ajax Cape Town.
With the Chloorkop-based outfit having also struggled in their other transfer target, in Brian Onyango from Maritzburg United, Pitso Mosimane’s side is said to have turned their focus to Letlabika.
“Mamelodi Sundowns are interested in Wandisile Letlabika from Bloemfontein Celtic. Enquiries are being made to see if the player could be available for a move before the transfer window deadline. However, Celtic are not interested in losing Letlabika or any more of their influential players. The player is still under contract at Celtic, and to show that they are serious about wanting to keep him, they want to tie him on another deal – a new one. “Celtic are interested in keeping the player. They have given him their proposal for a new contract. But he is yet to sign it, as far as I know,” said the source.
Letlabika, 28, is a product of the Sundowns’ development system. He was promoted to Downs’ first team set-up as a youngster in 2011, though was unable to establish himself with the side. The Port Elizabeth-born player joined Celtic from Sundowns in 2013 and now, after four years of playing for Siwelele, Downs have been impressed with the player’s progress.
