Sundowns Star Defender’s Future In Question
Mamelodi Sundowns Star Defender’s Future In Question
The future of one of Mamelodi Sundowns’ defenders is currently in question after the club confirmed that the player is set to be sidelined for the rest of the year.
Ricardo Nascimento, who joined the Brazilians during the July/August transfer window period last year, is expected to be out of action for several months after the player underwent surgery on his groin.
Due to his unavailability for the rest of the year, Sundowns have opted against registering the 30-year-old on their books, with the fifth foreign quota spot now being occupied by Ghanaian goalkeeper, Brimah Razak.
However, the Siya crew has since been informed by a source in the know that Nascimento’s future at Masandawana is currently in question, despite Sundowns taking a reasonable approach to refrain from registering an injured player.
Nascimento is currently in the final year of his contract with the CAF Champions League winners and indications are that the club is yet to open up talks about extending the player’s stay beyond the current 2017/18 campaign.
According to sources in the know, there has been talk that Sundowns could look to offload the centre back in the upcoming January transfer window, where they will be able to cash in on a reduced price instead of losing his services on a free at the end of his deal.
As things stand, Sundowns have already bolstered their defensive department with the signing of Bafana Bafana international, Rivaldo Coetzee and indications are that the 20-year-old might be seen as a replacement for Nascimento.
