Sundowns Defender Expected To Be Sidelined For The Year
Mamelodi Sundowns Defender Out For The Year!
A Mamelodi Sundowns defender is expected to be sidelined for the rest of the year, after undergoing surgery.
It was revealed on the Soccer Laduma website earlier this month that Sundowns were set to make a decision on Ricardo Nascimento after it was established that the player could be facing months out on the sidelines following a hernia injury.
Now, Siya sources have since revealed to the crew that Nascimento will not be out of action for the rest of the year, which means that Masandawana could opt against registering the player for the new campaign and subsequently free up a spot on their foreign quota for their new goalkeeper.
Sundowns announced the signing of Ghanaian shot-stopper, Brimah Razak, on August 01 and at the time there was much speculation surrounding the team’s foreign quota spots, with the team looking to add the goalkeeper to their plans for the new season following the departure of Wayne Sandilands.
Indications are that Masandawana will register Razak for the 2017/18 campaign, taking the place of their Brazilan centre-back, Nascimento.
Sundowns will go in to the new season with Soumahoro Bangaly, Fares Hachi, Yannick Zakri, Leonardo Castro and Razak, as their five foreign players, as its stands.
However, should Nascimento return to fitness in the January transfer window, the Brazilians could look to re-register the player, however will need to free up yet another foreign spot at that point in time.
Although, as reported in issue number 1035 of Soccer Laduma, Colombian striker Castro is currently being linked with a move away from the Chloorkop-based and with a year left on his contract, it remains to be seen whether a transfer for the player will materialise in the coming weeks.
