Bucs Want Coetzee/ Mobara Partnership?
Interest Escalates For Bafana Defender As Pirates And Sundowns Chase Player
As reported in the latest edition of Soccer Laduma, issue 1031, Orlando Pirates have upped their search for a defender by joining Mamelodi Sundowns in the chase for Rivaldo Coetzee’s signature.
The Siya crew has reported that Ajax Cape Town has taken disciplinary action against the defender after he failed to report to pre-season duty at the club.
The Bafana Bafana centre back is one of the in-demand players during this transfer window, following his impressive performances at club and senior national team level.
As reported, the player’s representative, Mike Makaab, has been in discussions with Ajax about the player’s situation.
Coetzee has been linked with a big local or overseas move since the end of last season. Siya sources have indicated that Pirates have identified him as a target.
Coetzee, 20, as well as Bidvest Wits’ Thulani Hlatshwayo, have emerged as the latest targets for Bucs, as the Soweto giants are showing their seriousness about wanting to reinforce their team for the upcoming season.
With Wits seemingly reluctant to part with their league-winning captain, the indication is that the Buccaneers could try and land Coetzee to reunite him with former Ajax teammates Abbubaker Mobara and Riyaad Norodien.
Coetzee and Mobara formed a solid defensive unit when they played alongside each other at the Mother City outfit.
The two players also played alongside each other for South Africa’s U23 team during their campaign at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The big name signings announced by Pirates so far in this transfer window are that of Thamsanqa Sangweni, Wayne Sandilands, as well as Nigerian striker, Christian Obiozor.
