First PSL Coach Sacking Imminent?
Coaching Changes In The PSL Imminent
After only one round of PSL fixtures played, the Siya crew has been informed that there could soon be coaching changes underway at one of the clubs.
Sources in the Free State have revealed to the Siya crew that Sammy Troughton of Free State Stars is facing an uncertain future with the club, despite having joined the team only recently.
In confirming Troughton’s appointment at the Bethlehem outfit in July, Ea Lla Koto said the former Stellenbosch FC coach was appointed because he had been with the club in the past and that he knows the culture of the club.
Stars lost 1-0 against PSL returnees AmaZulu in their first match of the 2017/18 season under Troughton and his technical team. AmaZulu had Sadat Ouro-Akoriko red-carded just 13 minutes into the match and played with minus one player for the better part of the game.
“Believe it or not, Sammy Troughton could be relieved of his coaching duties at Free State Stars. The team’s next game which will be against Wits will be crucial for him to win to save his job.
“The club wasn’t entirely happy with the team’s performance in their first match of the season on the weekend. There was a meeting at the club yesterday (Monday), where the team’s performance was discussed. He is facing uncertain future,” said the source.
According to the source, the club feels that the technical team could have done better with tactical changes against AmaZulu.
Last season, Stars were the first PSL club to part ways with a coach, when Frenchman Denis Lavagne was relieved of his coaching duties just three games into the season.
Stars had lost two of their opening three games of the season under the Frenchman, with the other having been a draw. The match for Stars and Wits is set for Goble Park at 19h30 on Wednesday.
